Undermount Sinks
Distance From the Countertop Surface
Regardless of the thickness of the countertop, we typically remove the wood around the bottom of the sink cut-out so that the wood is 1 ¼ inches thick. The area where the sink hardware will be installed is also made 1 ¼ inches thick to facilitate installation of the faucet hardware.
Reveal
As a rule, we use the manufacturer's specifications to cut the hole for under mount sinks. This means that the default for the reveal (see photo above) is what the manufacturer thinks it should be. With some sinks such as the one one in the photo below, there is no reveal. The walls of the sink are in line with the countertop cutout. Others can have as much as 3/8 inch of stainless steel showing.
