Countertops
Thickness
We build countertops from 1 ¼ inches thick to 15 inches thick. However, the majority of tops are between 2 inches and 4 inches thick. The minimum thicknesss should be one that maintains proportion with the size – or footprint – of the island. You can easily put a 1 ¾ inch thick top on a 20 square foot island. However, if the island is 30 square feet, a 2 or 2 ¼ inch top will be in better proportion to the size of the island. Tops thicker than 2 ½ inches are out of proportion for most islands.
