Craft-Art Introduces New Finish for Line of Wood Countertops, Butcher Blocks

ATLANTA, GA, February 1, 2011Craft-Art, Inc., manufacturer of custom-built wood islands, countertops and butcher blocks sold exclusively through its network of kitchen and bath distributors, has introduced a new penetrating oil finish to its line, giving homeowners two choices of finishes depending upon their personal preferences and desired end use for their countertops and chopping blocks. Craft-Art has always offered a Crosslinked Tung Oil finish that is virtually maintenance-free and now, in answer to consumer demand, offers a Food Safe Penetrating Oil finish for people who use their wood top as a cutting board or chopping block.

Craft-Art‘s original Crosslinked Tung Oil finish resists most household chemicals and is highly moisture resistant. It cleans up easily with a disinfecting 15 percent white vinegar/water solution or mild soap and water. The look of this finish is that of upscale fine wood furniture with a slightly glossy, satin finish. This finish is typically chosen by the homeowners who use a separate cutting board and do not use sharp objects on the countertop without surface protection.

Then, there are other homeowners who want to use their countertop as a cutting board or chopping block. Craft-Art‘s new Food Safe Penetrating Oil finish with its matte finish is for them.

Craft-Art‘s Food Safe Penetrating Oil finish requires more maintenance on the part of the homeowner, but provides exceptional function and beauty for people who want the integrated benefits of a wood top. The wood is protected by a blend of natural mineral oil and beeswax, which is absorbed into the cellular fibers of the wood. When using this finish, homeowners must routinely (every three to four weeks) re-oil their wood top to maintain its functionality and beauty. The benefit of this finish is that homeowners can use the entire surface as a chopping block; surface imperfections such as scratches can be easily sanded out by the homeowner with a sheet of sandpaper. After using a tackcloth to remove any wood dust, they can simply spot treat specific areas of the surface or re-oil the entire surface to regain its original look and beauty.

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Craft-Art is the industry leader of custom-built wood islands, countertops and butcher blocks in North America. Craft-Art wood surfaces are beautiful, durable, easy-to-maintain and bring warmth to any room.
